Create Shared Notebook in OneNote 2007
Written by Erik Gulbrandsen
Saturday, 03 February 2007

This 10 minute video will show you how to create a shared notebook in 2007, and then access that notebook over a home network. This is useful because it will create an automatic backup of your notes with minimal effort. For me, my notebook updates every night automatically because of the shared notebooks. If you have any questions, just post below and I will try to address them.

What about if you accidentally

The problem if you "really mess up" one of your OneNote Notebooks, they will be auto synched when you get home.

Any way to prevent this ... ie. restore your copy at home BEFORE your messed up copy on the laptop overwrites the good one at home ?

Not sure if it's just me but my FireFox 1.5 is taking up 180 Megs of RAM (one Window) to view this Video.

Ya, my RAM is up over 60 MB. I'll look into the memory issue a little.

About the notebook, what I would do in that instance is just close the laptop notebook. You will lose all of the notes from that day, but, at least your notebook isn't "destroyed".

You could always take one of the backups from your desktop (the auto backup made by OneNote) and open that on your desktop and keep your laptop notebook open--this way you can delete some of the destroyed stuff, but, retain the good stuff.

Sync

I have a desktop at home and a laptop at work. They do not sync each other. How can I sync the onenote files without a USB Stick? Maybe through a server? Is there any one for free? I cannot change my laptop server conf because it already syncs with my company server.

You can try this:

http://www.hamachi.cc/

it is a free VPN that will make your desktop (or laptop) be on the same network as your laptop (or desktop). This way, the syncing will be quite simple.

I've never used it, but, I plan on trying it out in the near future (in about 3 months).
