In this post you will learn how to import calendars into Outlook or Gmail
Click on the Links below to download the calendars that you need. For instance, if I am in Society 7, I would need to download 2010 Class Calendar (has all classes that everybody goes to), biochem pbl society 5-8, Society 1-8, and histo 6-8, 14, 15, 16a. This will make certain that you don't have any events on your calendar except for the ones that you have to go to. You might want to download the 2010Everything calendar and import it as a different calendar (for google calendar users only). Don't do this in Outlook, unless you have made a seperate calendar for it, or you will have duplicates of everything. 2010 Class (all lectures--no labs) The steps to import in outlook are thus:
- Download the calendars that you wish to use
- Save them to a location on your computer that you can find later (desktop or my documents)
- Open Outlook
- Click on "file"
- Point to "Import and Export"
- Select "import from an iCal or vCal file (.vcs)
- If Outlook begins to install a missing component, you will need to find your Office CD's to continue. Follow the steps to install the component (it will do it automatically). Then, start over with step 4.
- Browse for the file on the hard drive (desktop or my documents).
- Click on the file
- Click "OK"
The file should import without a problem.
The steps to import a calendar into google calendar are thus:
- Go to http://calendar.google.com
- Sign in with a user account (if you don't have one, you will need to sign up with a cell phone or ask somebody with a google account to send you an "invitation")
- Click on "settings" in the top right corner
- Click on "calendars"
- Click "create new calendar"
- Give the calendar a name
- Make certain that your time zone is Central time
- Then click "create calendar"
- Now, click on "settings" again.
- Then, click on "import calendar"
- Click on "browse" and find the file that contains the calendar that you want to import
- click on the "drop down arrow" and point to the calendar that you just made in steps 5-8.
- Click "import".
- Click "ok"
You are now done. It is a good idea to import the Everything Calendar for google (but not for outlook), because it is so easy to turn a calendar on and off in google. Just clicking the check mark next to the calendar name will do this.
There are many other online calendar systems that you can use. Steps for these should be fairly similar to those above. These calendars include:
- airset
- 30 boxes
- yahoo--allows for syncing with PDAs
- calendar hub
- planzo
