Biochemistry was a difficult subject for me, but I finally got into a
routine that made it quite doable. I didn't study anything out of the
book--the notes were completely sufficient for me, but that is just my
opinion.
2nd year students told me "old tests, old tests, old
tests". So, I reviewed the old tests and made certain that I knew each
question that was being asked. Well, that didn't work out for me. What I
ended up doing was quite simple. I read through my notes once. Then I
got together with my study group and read through the notes again,
hitting my highlighted stuff. Then, we took out the old tests and tried
to reason through each question on our own. Unless it was a no-brainer
question, we always talked about why the incorrect answers were
incorrect--I think this was important. Then, we went over our notes a
third time--highlighting the stuff from the old tests that we missed.
The
concepts that are tested on the biochem exams are generally the same
concepts that were tested on in previous years. So, it would be a good
idea to go over things that you didn't quite understand from the old
exams.
good luck!
