Friends, Below is a copy of the email I sent late last week. We
really do need your help. The opposition has prepared a group to
filibuster. You have worked so hard to get to this point, and we
need to keep them on track, that this is a public health issue.
Here are some ideas for how we need your help: 1) Show up tomorrow
early and pack the chamber halls. Make the room FULL of blueshirts.
Please bring your cameras (Digital if you have one) and take
pictures. Especially sit down front and everyone get pictures of
the council members as they vote. 2) Contact Jeff Newton and
encourage him to vote YES. He can be found at Il Spazio, by calling
there, or calling him at 665-7310 or email

Look forward to seeing you all there!
Breathe Easy Kirksville Dear concerned citizens. The agenda for
this Wednesday's Council Meeting includes two Smoke Free items.
First, the council will vote on the ordinance. As we have indicated
in the past, it looks as though this will fail, unless councilman
Jeff Newton decides not to abstain and vote. He supports the
ordinance but has cited a conflict of interest as a restraunt
owner. The second item would place the ordinance on the April 3rd,
2007 ballot. We expect this to pass if the first indeed fails.
While we believe Kirksville voters will support a ballot measure,
this is a defeat for our cause. It shows us that our council
certainly doesn't care about health!! We need your help, one last
time. We need you to show up wearing blue. It will be standing room
only (if you all show up) so come early and lets pack the council
chambers. As the council members enter the building reach out your
hand and stop them, call them by name, and ask for their support
tonight. You can see pictures of the council members at
www.kirksvillecity.com. YOU CAN NOT speak during the citizen
participation part at the first of the meeting as that is reserved
for items NOT on the agenda. However, during the discussion of
either ordinance, please feel free to approach the podium and
speak. I anticipate the mayor will not invite you participation,
but it is clearly stated on the agenda that your participation is
welcome! Just please try to either share your personal views etc or
if you are referencing studies make sure you mention something new,
as they may cut you off if they feel it has been heard before. Each
person has up to five minutes. Columbia's meeting went until 1am
as the public demanded a decision be made. Be VOCAL! Be HEARD!! YOU
can view the agenda and the ordianances as well as the City
Managers letter online at www.kirksvillecity.com. Click on agendas
on the right and the Nov 15th council meeting agenda. Each item is
then hyperlinked. Thank you again for all you have done and we look
forward to seeing you Wednesday night!!! Breathe Easy Kirksville
