Tonight at the city council meeting, concerned citizens spend
over an hour
sharing their convictions about a smoke free Kirksville. While we still have a long way to go, we can say tonight was a step in the right direction. The focus is back on public health (as it should be). Breathe Easy will continue conversations with city council regarding further developments of a 'good' and fair bar and restaraunt ordinance, and encourage them to protect as many employees as possible. What can you do: 1) Keep this on the front burner with emails and phone calls to council members. If you run into them in the community, share your positive thoughts!! 2) Plan to attend next Wednesday nights study session (Oct 25) at city hall at 5:30. We know our opposition is planning to attend and we need you there in Blue Shirts to help keep their focus on public health. This is a STUDY SESSION and they will be discussing the smoke free ordinance among themselves and as a general rule, citizens are NOT invited to speak. However, you ARE invitied to attend and we need the visual pressure to help them make the right decisions. 3) The following Wednesday (Nov 1st) will be a regular council meeting. At this time we are hoping for a vote. Block this evening off at 5:00 on your calendar and we will provide more information as time gets closer. Thanks again for all you are doing to keep the momentum going on this important public health concern. Sincerely, Breathe Easy Kirksville |
